The Economic Injustice against the Cape
The following chart shows the imbalance in revenue redistribution among the Provinces in South Africa. For every R100 the Cape taxpayer sends to Pretoria (for example: All personal income tax, corporate tax, VAT on all purchases, import duties, petrol tax, liquor and tobacco tax, etc.) we receive only R58 back.
The contrast with the Eastern Cape and Limpopo, who get R190 and R191, respectively for every R100 they pay in taxes, is striking. This means that in reality we subsidise the gross mismanagement, corruption and looting in all the other Provinces.
Only the Western Cape and Gauteng are donor Provinces (the Northern Cape is neutral). The South African Treasury is completely sustained by them. The Cape is therefore, more economically viable than South Africa.
